How the media turned society against Taylor Swift
If you mention the name Taylor Swift you are bound to be met with an eye roll, a huff and a sexist comment, at a minimum. Ironically it’s the same people screaming about feminism and equal rights. “Her music is so generic,” they’ll cry as she writes incredibly in-depth and thought-provoking songs that have so many layers their sheep-like brain can’t simply comprehend.
The second she’s spotted with or rumoured to be with a man, here come the completely vanilla and unimaginative “watch out she’ll write a song about you” jokes. Apparently it’s inconceivable that a young woman can date and have relationships and be a normal human being. It’s shocking. It’s as if suddenly every other singer hasn’t done the exact same thing, but if you bring that up, oh boy, there’s even more unoriginal responses coming your way.
If Beyoncé (actually she has) done all of the same things Taylor has, but somehow she’s praised and beloved.
At every chance the media will magnify and scrutinise every bit of her and condemn her for being an actual human being. She never claimed to be angel but apparently being a nice person means you have to be proven to be a monster.
If she does any charity work it’s apparently all for publicity. If she tracks down a fan at a concert, it’s for publicity.
People want so badly for her to be a mean girl or a villain because she has been shown throughout her career being so nice and sweet, especially to her fans and people like to rip women apart and put them down.
The whole mean girl persona was created by the media and perpetuated by one single word: squad. They forced the label onto her and her friends and made them seem exclusive and untouchable. Not once did Taylor ever act in such a way. It’s their narrative of her.
But it all began with the one idea- that she’s a serial dater. Of course, they build you up to tear you down and for some reason being HUMAN and a NORMAL YOUNG ADULT was just not allowed, in her case only, if you ask the media.
Other young women in the industry have dated many more people and more frequently AND written songs about them but it doesn’t matter because it’s just another weapon to use to sculpt the evil Taylor persona.
Taylor stopped dating for years just to prove the media wrong but still the lame misogynistic jokes continued.
People said Taylor didn’t pull her weight in writing sessions so she wrote it Speak Now by herself.
No matter what, Taylor can do no right in the media and public eye and it’s pathetic because she has literally done nothing wrong except be human and do similar things to other people in the industry.
She’s the mean girl, she’s the villain they painted and boy did they have a field day with Kayne.
Everyone was so quick to jump on Kim & Kayne’s side they didn’t even think, oh why is cut into small clips? Why does this video seem to not be a whole conversation? That’s because fame-hungry assholes twisted the situation to make her look like the bad guy.
I’m not saying Taylor is perfect, that’s my point, she’s not, and somehow the media and society punish her for it. For what? For being talented? For living her dreams? For being successful? For going above and beyond for her fans? So next time you go to huff and puff about how bad Taylor swift is, ask yourself why, especially if you claim to be a feminist, you loathe this person you don’t know so very much, how her name makes you spew hate.
People don’t like to see a successful woman keep on rising, they just want to watch them fall and if not, they’ll fight tooth and nail to drag them down.
